Summary:
under construction....Mr. Scroggins, as far as I know the 22nd Georgia Batt. Heavy Artillery Co.B "Wise Guards" were for a time based at Fort Jackson in Savannah. Then I believe they were sent to Fort McAllister on the Ogeechee River and some of them were captured when the Federals overran the works there in 1864. Also the "Wise Guards" were primarily and only infantry, however they were not the only infantry company in the 22nd. There were two other companies:(A Co.(Bartow's Artillery),(B Co.(Wise Guards),(C&D Co.(Oglethorpe Heavy Artillery),(E Co.(Emmett Rifles), and (F Co.(Montgomery Guards).Companies C & D "Oglethorpes Heavy Artillery" were stationed at the Battery Tattnall across the river from Fort Jackson, Company E.the "Emmett Rifles" to my unit little is known of, however Company F. "Montgomery Guards" was with the part of Company B that was captured at Fort McAllister in 1864. I believe that the remaining members of all the 22nd's companies surrender in Goldborough, North Carolina in 1865. ----Private James F. Dunigan III, 22nd Georgia Heavy Artillery Co.
