I am working to tear down this brick wall:
William GOODWIN

William Goodwin was married to Ruth _____.
William Goodwin married Elizabeth York on Dec. 16, 1824, Crawford County, IL.

John Brassfield gave me a copy of a document by William Goodwin requesting guardinship dated 25 August 1829. It is my belief that Ruth may have been named in a will or some other legal document and William wanted to make sure her children would receive what was coming to her heirs. The document, however, only states Ruth's name as Ruth Goodwin, but does state the names of her children.

The following is my transcription:

This day William Goodwin came into court and represented to the court that heirs of Ruth Goodwin, his decesed wife were entitled to some real estate property by heirship, not derived from their father or mother, and requested to be appointed Guardian for the sid heris, and he is accordingly appointed and his letters of guardinship recorded as follows to wit:

State of Illinois County of Crawford} Sct. - The people of the state ofIllinois, to all to whom these presents shall come Greeting: Know ye, that wheras Ruth Goodwin deceased of the county of Crawford and state of Illinois, at her decease left minor heirs to wit: Jehu Goodwin, Jarred Goodwin, Sylas Goodwin, Ranson Goodwin, Mary Goodwin, William Goodwin, Moses Goodwin, and Hyraim Goodwin, that are entitled to real estate Property by heirship not derived from their father or mother, which may be lost, destroyed, or diminished in value if spedy? care be not taken of the same, to the end therefore, that said property may be preserved for the said minor heirs we do hereby appoint William Goodwin of the county of Crawford and state of Illinois guardian for said heirs, with full power and authority to secure and preserve said property, and in general, to do and perform all other acts which now are, or hereafter may be required of him by law. Witness, Thomas Kennedy, Judge of probate in and for the said county of Crawford at his office this twenty-fifth day of August A.D. 1829.

Thomas Kennedy Judge of probate.
(Seal)Sealed with my private seal, there being no seal of office yet provided.

Sept. 23, 1835:
William died before 23 Sept. 1835. There is a probate record by Elizabeth Goodwin signed by Thomas Kennedy, Judge of probate, dated 23 Sept. 1835 that states William was deceased.
