John Overton Sanders (holding Donna Mae Sanders)

John Overton Sanders was born June 08, 1859,
son of William Washington Sanders and Parthena Boles. John's mother,
Parthena, died in 1861 when he was an infant. His father,
William, died in 1864, of typhus while serving in the Civil War. His
step-mother, Margaret, also died in 1864, leaving John and his half-brother,
Joseph Leroy, orphans. Elisha (their grandfather) became their guardian in
June 1864. He was 43 years old when in 1900,
he married Sereta "Sadie" (Pollard) Pruitt.
This was his only marriage. It was Sadie's 2nd marriage.
John served in the Spanish-American War in Co "G", 9th Illinois Infantry.
He enlisted from Mt. Carmel, Illinois.
John and Sereta are buried at Ash Hill Cemetery, Ash Hill,
Butler County, Missouri.
