William J. Toeppe - 04/17/00 22:21:16 | Comments: I think yhe name of the road was the Greensburgh Pike. There was a community on the Pike named Gabel's Corner. There may be signs on the road marking that location. The place is at a Tee in the road where a road comes from the South and ends at the Pike. here are two cemeteries adjacent to each other on this road ending at the Pike. One is Old Saint Mary's, a Catholic cemetery. The other is supposedly a Protestant cemetery. I was told that a Gabel donated the land for one or both of the cemeteries. |

Ruth Freeman - 07/08/99 00:12:19 My Email:rfreeman@upei.ca Check here if you visited the Genealogy pages:: yes | Comments: Hi Roger: I think I might have a possible identification for the Jane Freeman who married Westbrook Berry. I have a Jane Freeman, born Nov. 7, 1732, who moved to Maine from Massachusetts sometime before 1759. Her parents were Jonathan Freeman and Rebecca Binne . She had a brother Jonathan who married Sarah Parker in Falmouth, Maine in 1759. I noticed that the names Jonathan, Rebecca and Sarah appear as children of Westbrook and Jane, which adds some creedence (if not definitive proof). Also, Jane's aunt -- Eun ce Freeman -- married a Crocker as well. All circumstantial evidence of course, but intriguing. Also, I wonder if you have run across the name Judah Berry. I have two of them in my Freeman line and cannot determine their origins. One of them married Mary Freeman in 1713 (probably in Eastham, MA) and they had Lemuel, Theophilus, and Mary. The econd Judah was born December 24, 1743, and married Grace Freeman on Dec. 6, 1770 (probably in Harwich, MA). They had as children Lemuel, Lydia, Polly, Samuel and Judah. If you know about any of these I would be thrilled to hear about it and share any info I might have. Cheers, Ruth |

Robert L. Hood - 06/03/99 19:22:55 My Email:hoodrl@poncacity.net | Comments: Hi, My name is Bob Hood. I was browsing the net and decided to look and see if I could find anything about the Hood Family. I have been interested in the family tree for a long time, but have had little luck obtaining information on my "branch". I found t e name traced as far back as 1200's and the first Hood name appeared to be a derivative of the the name Hod. Robert Obernus Hod was a "Hood maker" for falcons used for hunting. The information that I found indicated that the name was given because we Hood were hoodmakers. I don't know if that is accurate, but that is what the information I received stated. Apparently, Hoods hand crafted falconry hoods for the hierarchy during that time. I received a copy of what was supposed to be the Hood Family Crest of Arms. The Family Crest had a Knights helmet with a pergrine falcon sitting on top complete with a "hood". Under the helmet was a set of three half moons turned upside down and all in a row. This was supposed to reflect that there were three Hood sons that fought and died in the Crusades. I found all of this relatively interesting due to the fact that have always been a bird appreciator. I too have been involved with the training of falcons and hawks for hunting purposes. I also raised ostriches and emus. Never did make any hoods for the ostriches tho'. ha I don't really know if this information is ev n remotely accurate, but I did get it through a mini search on my part. I have a copy of the family crest at home and was just wandering if anyone else had received any of the same info. I can only go back as far as my Grandparents on the Hood side of the family. Grandpa's name was Robert Connelly Hood. He was from the Oklahoma area with brief stints in Missouri and Colorado. He married Mary Francis Hickman ( nicknamed Maime ). I don't know where Grandma was from, and have never really researched any furth r than right here. I don't know if any of this information will help anyone else that could be looking, but I thought I'd put it here for someone else to look at. If anyone has any information, you can contact me at hoodrl@poncacity.net. I have been livin in Oklahoma since 1963. The direct decendants of my Grandfather were: Henry,Basil,Ruby,Grace,Nadine, and my father William R. Hood.I don't have any info about Grandma's family at all. Sorry to write such a book, but I know sometimes every little bit helps when you're trying to compile information. Thanks for the time and space. Robert L.(Bob) Hood |
