Letter in Support of Professor Reaume from Professors of Osgoode Hall Law School at York University

We are writing to express our disappointment that the University of Toronto has publicly announced its decision to launch an investigation into the conduct of Professor Denise Réaume before university officials have been able to contact her.

We know Professor Réaume to be a principled scholar of utmost integrity, who is renowned for speaking out against dishonesty and duplicity. By publicly announcing an investigation before hearing from Professor Réaume, the university has fuelled a situation where the circulation of unproven allegations and innuendo may cause unjustified, irreversible damage to her reputation. We are particularly concerned that the circumstances in which the allegations have been made ought to raise suspicions about their reliability in that they could deflect attention from those who might properly bear responsibility for the alleged widespread student dishonesty.

Sincerely,
